I. Study Period

The length of schooling for doctoral students is 4 years. Those who fail to complete the study task on time due to objective reasons can apply for an extension of the study period. The longest study period for doctoral students (including suspension and retention of school status) is not more than 7 years.

The length of schooling for Academic Masters is 3 years. Those who fail to complete the study task on schedule due to objective factors may apply for an extension of the study period. The longest period of study for academic master students (including suspension and retention) is not more than 5 years.

For graduate students who have completed the training plan in advance and their dissertations meet the requirements of Graduation Competitive Examination, may, after the prescribed examination and approval procedures, apply for graduate and degree in advance.

II. Cultivation methods

1Attach equal importance to course study and thesis research for master students and Insist on dissertation research for doctoral students. Emphasis should be placed on cultivating students' excellent style of study, spirit of exploration, ability to independently engage in scientific research and innovative ability.


2The instructor is the first person responsible for the quality of postgraduate training. The mentor responsibility system can also be implemented with collective mentor guidance. The tutor or the tutor guidance group is responsible for making and adjusting the graduate student's personal study plan, organizing reading report and opening report, guiding scientific research and degree thesis, etc. For the graduate students of interdisciplinary subjects, they should organize the co-construction of disciplines to form a tutor guidance group for collective guidance. To teach and educate, instructors should care about the growth of postgraduates.


III. Course Outline and Credit Requirements

The total credits of Doctoral degree courses shall be no less than 21 credits for natural science, including no less than 14 credits of course learning and no less than 7 credits for training. No less than 23 credits in humanities and social sciences, including no less than 16 credits in course learning and no less than 7 credits in training.


The total credits of Master's degree courses shall be no less than 31 credits of natural science, including no less than 26 credits of course learning and no less than 5 credits of training. No less than 33 credits in humanities and social sciences, including no less than 28 credits in course learning and no less than 5 credits in training.

Courses are set according to degree courses, compulsory courses and elective courses. Degree courses include public degree courses and professional degree courses. Elective courses include public elective courses and professional elective courses. Most courses will arrange on the first academic year except academic seminar courses, research methods and academic paper writing courses.


IV. Main training segments and requirements

  1. Make personal training plans

The personal training plan for graduate students includes study plan (including study plan, reading plan, academic activity arrangement, etc.) and thesis research plan (dissertation research and work plan), which shall be completed within 1-3months after the admission of new students. According to the requirements of the training program and the actual situation of the graduate students, the tutor or the tutor guidance group shall guide the graduate students to make the personal training plan carefully. Once the personal training plan is developed, it shall not be changed at personal will. The change of the personal training plan shall be approved by the tutor, discipline and schools.


2Academic Activities

To participate in academic activities is the important way to improve graduate student academic view and scientific research ability and academic activities include academic reports and academic report, attending the international conference counts as 2 credits, participating in domestic institute national conference of the national level counts as 1 credit, participating in the domestic society branch or provincial national level organization of academic conference counts as 0.5 credits, in-school or college academic report counts as 0.5 credits each, 0.1 credits awarded per academic report listening. If students participates in the joint training of graduate students sent abroad by the state or the university for more than half a year, the academic activities shall be seen as passing the examination. Specific requirements according to the Fujian Agriculture and Forestry University graduate students to participate in academic activities.


3Practical Education

Practical education is the basic requirement of postgraduate training, including scientific research practice, teaching practice, management practice and social practice. Among them, scientific research practice is a compulsory course, and teaching practice, management practice and social practice are optional. Research practice is generally applied as a research assistant, and the tutor or the tutor group is responsible for employment. Graduate students participate in the application and implementation of the research project of the tutor or the tutor group, and the tutor or the tutor group is responsible for issuing the certificate for assessment. Teaching practice is generally applied as a teaching assistant, assisting in instructing teachers or teachers of this discipline in undergraduate teaching and experiments, instructing undergraduate graduation thesis (design), etc., which shall be examined by instructing teachers or teachers of this discipline, and examined by the educational administration department of the employer. In management practice, Students are generally employed as assistant manager to work as an assistant to the management department of the university. In completing one or more experiences, the employment department shall issue a certificate for assessment. Social practice is generally voluntary service, subject investigation and research, etc., writing survey and research reports or above, and the host department of participating in social practice issues a certificate for assessment. 1 credit in scientific research practice assessment and 1 credit is awarded in teaching practice, management practice or social practice assessment.


4Literature review and proposal

According to the training requirements of scientific research innovation, doctoral students should read extensively relevant literature of the discipline at home and abroad before the thesis opening demonstration

Graduate students should determine research topics as early as possible, carry out scientific research as early as possible, and enter the laboratory as early as possible. Generally, they should complete the thesis topic selection and thesis opening argumentation before the end of the second semester, and no later than the end of the third semester. Once the thesis topic is proved, it should be carried out strictly and seriously. If there is any change, it should be reproved.


5Subject comprehensive examination(only for doctoral students) and mid-term assessment

At the end of the course study, the doctoral students should hold a comprehensive discipline examination to check whether the doctoral students have grasped the solid and broad basic theory and systematic and in-depth expertise of the discipline, which is an important basis for determining whether they can enter the thesis stage. The general examination is generally arranged in the third semester. The general examination is presided over by an examination committee composed of 3-5 professors, associate professors (or equivalent titles) of the subject and related subjects. Mid-term assessment are taken on the basis of comprehensive examination, specific requirement is carried out according to school latest document.

Generally mid-term assessment will be arranged in the third semester.


6Thesis Mid-term examination

Thesis Mid-term examination generally arranged at the end of the third semester or the fourth semester, specific requirements by each discipline.


7Graduation and degree awarding

Scientific research and dissertation writing are the main ways to cultivate doctoral students' innovative ability and the key link to improve the training quality of doctoral students, which should be completed independently by students under the guidance of their supervisors. Master students should spend at least one yeardoctoral students at least two years working on their dissertations during their study.


Doctoral dissertations should participate in mock oral defense and the application procedure and schedule of dissertation defense as well as specific requirements shall be implemented according to the latestnotification from graduate school or academic college.


The specific requirements for students to publish papers during their study period shall be implemented according to the latest documents of the school.


Language skill required students from English speaking background or who uses English as the main language should be able to use English smoothly in completing the disciplines and specialties of study and research task, and have the ability to use English in the professional workforce. By graduation, student’s Chinese ability should reach at least Level 3 of the Chinese language proficiency Standard; Students studying in China with Chinese as the main language of instruction should be able to successfully use Chinese to complete the study and research tasks of their respective disciplines and majors, and have the ability to use Chinese to engage in relevant work of their respective majors. Upon graduation, their Chinese proficiency should reach level 5 of the International Chinese Language Proficiency Standard.
