On June 7th , the final round of the South Africa Division of the 4th Chinese-Bridge Chinese Show for Foreign Primary School Students concluded successfully in Durban. Hosted by the Chinese Embassy in South Africa and MOE’s Center for Language Education and Cooperation, and organized by FAFU’s Confucius Institute at Durban University of Technology, the event embraced the theme “Chinese, Joy and Fun” and consisted of a speech and a talent show.
Mahi Roophund, a student from FAFU’s Confucius Institute at DUT, won the championship.

Chinese Consul General in Durban, Li Zhigong, attended the event and delivered a speech. Also present at the contest were distinguished guests including Hleki Mabunda, Director of International Relations at the South African Department of Basic Education, Clarence Blignaut, Director of Language Curriculum at the Department of Basic Education, Li Xun, Chinese Education Advisor for the South African Department of Basic Education, and Chen Songhua, President of the South African Chinese Education Promotion Association. Fu Xiaoping, Vice President of Fujian Chunlun Group, delivered a speech via video. Over 120 participants attended the event, including representatives from Chinese and South African enterprises, media, faculty and staff of Confucius Institutes, Chinese language enthusiasts, and parent representatives.
Mahi Roophund, a student from FAFU’s Confucius Institute at DUT, won first prize and will represent South Africa in the global finals in China.
