Recently, Dr. Tang Wenxin and Dr. Lin Wenwei from Haixia Institute of Science and Technology (HIST) of FAFU have published two consecutive papers in the international academic journal Current Biology, systematically expounding the new mechanism of plants regulating the morphogenesis of epidermal pavement cells by sensing the changes of cell wall components and mechanical forces.
Extracts from the two papers
The two research findings have provided a theoretical basis for a better understanding of how plants perceive physical stimuli (including changes of cell wall components and mechanical forces) so as to achieve adaptive growth.
