RESEARCH EXPERIENCE:

  Our major research fields focus on molecular biology and protection of important economic insects such as honeybee. In recent years,our team made a series of original progress regarding honeybee immune response to pathogen invasion, pathogenesis of widespread fungal pathogens of honeybee, and non-coding RNAs of honeybees and their pathogens.

(1) We comprehensively analyzed the immune responses of eastern honeybee larvae and western honeybee larvae to Ascosphaera apis invasion and the gene expression patterns of A. apis during chalkbrood disease, and revealed the molecular mechanisms regulating host-pathogen interactions.

(2) We first made transcriptome-wide identification of circRNAs, lncRNAs, and miRNAs in A. apis, and verified their expression with molecular approaches.

(3)We systematically invesitigated the non-coding RNA-mediated immune responses and corresponding regulatory networks of Apis mellifera ligustica worker to Nosema ceranae infection, and further unraveled the miRNA-mediated mechanism of the host-pathogen interaction during microsporidiosis.

(4) By using next-generation sequencing and bioinformatics, we first discovered and characterized circRNAs and lncRNAs in N. ceranae, and circRNAs in Apis cerana cerana, a subspecies of eastern honeybee.

(5) Utilizing the up-to-date third-generation sequencing such as PacBio SMRT sequencing and Oxford Nanopore long-read sequencing, we first constructed and annotated the full-length transcriptomes, surveyed the alternative splicing and alternative polyadenylation, and improved the current reference genomes of A. apis and N. ceranae.

(6) We successfully assembled and annotated a chromosome-level genome of N. ceranae based on high-quality dataset derived form PacBio SMRT sequencing.
