Research Team of Prof. Zhou Shungui Publish Paper in Science Advances

福建农林大学(英文版) 发布时间: 2021-07-12 信息员:

Recently, the research teams led by Prof. Zhou Shungui of College of Resources and Environment have published an article entitled “Syntrophic interspecies electron transfer drives carbon fixation and growth by Rhodopseudomonas palustris under dark, anoxic conditions” in Science Advances (IF: 14.136, 2020).

Carbon fixation plays a key role in mitigating global climate change and increasing soil organic carbon. Carbon fixation driven by microorganisms requires reducing power. It is generally recognized that light and chemical energy are two types of reducing power. This research, however, reveals that electron is the third type and that electroautotrophy becomes a new mode of carbon fixationin dark, anoxic sedimentary environment under the ground.

The first author of this essay is Liu Xing, a research fellow of FAFU. Prof. Zhou Shungui in FAFU and Prof. Kenneth H. Nealson in University of Southern California are the co-corresponding authors. This work has been supported by the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars of China (Grant No. 41925028).
