The 2023 International Genetically Engineered Machine Competition (iGEM) came to an end on November 5th. The FZPt-CHINA multidisciplinary team led by students from the College of Life Sciences at FAFU, won the Gold Medal, the Best Hardware Award (an exclusive honor bestowed upon only 1 team out of 169 undergraduate teams globally), and the Best Bioremediation Project Nomination (a prestigious nomination given to only 5 teams out of 404 registered teams). FZPt-CHINA is the only team that won the “Best Hardware Award” among Chinese university participant.

The FZPt-CHINA team is co-organized by the College of Life Sciences and the College of Future Technology, with outstanding student members from all schools at FAFU. The team is under the joint guidance of Professor Qin Yuan, Dean of the School of Life Sciences and the School of Future Technology, Zhang Huiying, Associate Professor of the School of Life Sciences, and other esteemed faculty members, with Yin Weihua, graduate student from the College of Life Sciences as the team coach. It has made new breakthrough after securing a Gold Medal and a nomination in 2021.
