FAFU Researchers Uncover Mechanism of Tomato Epidermal Trichome Generation and Differentiation

Recently, FAFU research team led by Professor WU Shuang from Haixia Institute of Science and Technology published a research paper titled “A HD-ZIP transcription factor specifies fates of multicellular trichomes via dosage-dependent mechanisms in tomato” on Developmental Cell, which is selected by the editors as a featured cover article. Taking tomato as a system, this study reveals the complete mechanism of tomato epidermal trichome generation and differentiation by means of genetics, molecular and cell biology, and bioinformatics.

Professor WU Shuang from the Metabolomics Center of Haixia Institute of Science and Technology is the corresponding author of this paper. WU Minliang, a postdoctoral fellow in College of Horticulture, and CHANG Jiang, an associate professor in College of Horticulture, are the co-first authors of the paper. The work has been supported by the National Key Research and Development Program and the National Natural Science Foundation of China.
