On the morning of May 13rd, the delegates of about 80 visited our university, including Lin Songtian, President of the Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, Tonga Her Royal Highness, Piloleu Tuita, Honorary Chairman of the Pacific China Friendship Association and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Pacific China Friendship Association, and Chairman of the Tonga China Friendship Association, David Carter, former Speaker of Parliament of New Zealand and Honorary Chairman of the New Zealand China Friendship Association, and dignitaries, former dignitaries, envoys to China, representatives of friendship organizations, sister cities, and international students of Peking University from nine Pacific countries, including Australia, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Fiji, Samoa, Solomon Islands, and Tonga.
Chen Guoquan, deputy director of Fujian Provincial Foreign Affairs Office, Zheng Baodong, vice president of Fujian Agriculture and Forestry University, Lin Zhanxi, the chief scientist of China National Engineering Research Center of Juncao Technology, and some other members from FAFU’s corresponding departments accompanied the visit.

They first came to China National Engineering Research Center of Juncao Technology, visited the JuncaoYuan Square, International Juncao Garden, Juncao Mushroom Shed, Juncao Exhibition Hall and Linzhi Production Line, and other related production facilities and demonstrations. Guests learned about the application of Juncao technology on Juncao Mushroom planting, poverty alleviation and the soil erosion prevention and control in detail and listened to the introduction of Cooperation on Juncao technology in the Pacific region.

Afterwards, the two sides held a symposium in the lecture hall. In her speech, Princess Piloreu Tuita of Tonga expressed her gratitude to the university for its warm reception. Pacific countries are generally facing many development problems such as soil erosion, insufficient livestock feed, and irrational food structure. Through the field visit to the university’s Juncao center, everyone saw the great potential of this miracle grass to cooperate with countries in the Pacific region. She hoped that Professor Lin Zhanxi and teachers and students would be invited to visit Tonga to promote technical cooperation focusing on Juncao, and that more teachers and students from the Pacific region would study at the university to help Pacific countries make progress in soil erosion prevention, poverty alleviation and sustainable development.
