FAFU Graced with Ambassador Fearnley’s Presence

In the afternoon of October 19th, accompanied by functionaries from the Provincial Foreign Affairs Office, New Zealand's Ambassador to China Ms. Clare Fearnley, New Zealand’s Consul General in Guangzhou Ms. Rebekah Mawson and their party of six visited the campus. Vice President Zheng Baodong showed up in the related activities, including the colloquium joined by persons in charge from several school departments and colleges.  

At the Colloquium  

Zheng Baodong introduced the delegation to the statue of Dean Li Lairong, in tribute to his contribution to promoting friendly communications as well as agricultural and educational exchanges between China and New Zealand. Later at the colloquium, Zheng graced the delegation’s presence on behalf of the university before briefing them on the campus and her cooperative history with New Zealand universities and scientific research institutions. Zheng expressed his wish for Ambassador Fearnley to provide more platforms and support for deepening cooperation with more universities and institutions, in terms of people-to-people communication based on promoted mutual visits between teachers and students, and extended bilateral cooperation on scientific research in horticulture, food science, bee science, tea science and other fields.

Ambassador Fearnley expressed her gratitude for the warm reception. She acknowledged the good foundation and broad space for cooperation between FAFU and New Zealand universities and scientific research institutions. The New Zealand Embassy and consulate in China are willing to bridge and support further cooperation, with endeavors to promote bilateral communication and coordination in educational, technological, and cultural exchanges, ranging from joint application for scientific research projects, strengthened scientific research cooperation, thrived mutual visits between teachers and students, to schools running under Sino-international efforts.

It is noted that FAFU and New Zealand have a profound history of educational and scientific cooperation. Various partnership has been carried out in recent years with Lincoln University, Macy University, Royal Institute of Plant and Food, and Forestry Research Institute of New Zealand.
