On August 11, Jennifer May, the Ambassador of Canada to China, led a delegation including Behzad Babakhani, Consul General of Canada in Guangzhou, Consul Jacqueline Jorge, and Trade Commissioner Li Chunmin, to visit FAFU. Lai Hairong, Chair of the University Council, and Vice President Zheng Baodong welcomed the delegation and chaired a discussion at Rende Building in Fuzhou University Town Campus.

Discussion Session
Lai Hairong extended a warm welcome to the delegation and provided an overview of the school. He highlighted the profound and enduring cooperative education foundation between FAFU and Canadian universities such as Dalhousie University, the University of British Columbia, and Mount Saint Vincent University, and noted that the collaboration has trained a large number of high-level talents with knowledge of international conventions and global visions. Through the partnership of one non-independent legal person educational institution and six bachelor programs, both sides have achieved fruitful outcomes over more than two decades of cooperative education. This partnership has become a model for such initiatives in Fujian, and for Sino-Canadian educational and cultural exchanges. Additionally, FAFU has established long-term and productive cooperation with Canadian universities—including the University of Alberta, Brock University, University of the Fraser Valley, University of Guelph, and Saint Mary’s University—in areas such as faculty exchanges, scientific research, short-term undergraduate exchanges, and joint postgraduate training. Lai Hairong expressed hope that Ms. May’s visit would further promote FAFU’s collaboration with Canadian universities in talent training and scientific research, contributing to Sino-Canadian cultural and educational exchanges.
Ms. May expressed sincere gratitude for the warm reception. She noted that FAFU is a comprehensive multidisciplinary university with distinct academic strengths in agricultural and forestry sciences and life sciences. Through its partnerships with Canadian universities, FAFU has achieved remarkable results not only in talent cultivation but also in scientific research collaboration, academic exchanges, and faculty-student visits. She also underscored the commitment of the Canadian Embassy and Consulates in China to advance collaboration between Canadian universities and FAFU for mutual development.
