From December 5th to 7th, 2022, under the theme of “Agriculture-based Poverty Reduction and Sustainable Agro-Rural Development in Pacific Island Countries”, online training on sustainable development in agriculture and rural areas in the Pacific Island Countries (PICs) was successfully held by the China-Pacific Island Countries Poverty Alleviation and Cooperative Development Center.CHEN Guoquan, Deputy Director-General of Fujian Provincial Foreign Affairs Office, GU Xinqiang, Division Chief of the North American and Oceanian Affairs Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, FAFU’s Vice President ZHENG Baodong and officials from Fujian Provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Affairs attended the opening ceremony. Chen and Zheng delivered speeches.
The training program brought together 35 attendees from Kiribati, Fiji, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Solomon Islands and Vanuatu and representatives of Chinese-funded institutions in island countries.

During the training session,CHEN Yingqun, a journalist of China Daily, ZHU Chaozhi, Director of Rural Development Institute and Cross-Straits Rural Revitalization Research Institute of FAFU,CHEN Tin, Director of the Office of Service Branding of the Agricultural Bank of China(Fuzhou Branch), respectively made reports titled “China’s Historic Achievements in Poverty Reduction”,“Experience of Chinese Science and Technology Commissioner System and Its Reference for Reducing Rural Poverty in Pacific Island Countries”, and “Experience of China’s E-commerce Targeted Poverty Alleviation and Its Reference for Expanding Agricultural Markets”. The training participants made presentations, discussions and summarizations. On the afternoon of the 7th, ZHUANG Peifen, Head of the Research Center for South Pacific Island Countries, addressed the closing ceremony and issues certificates online.
This training program was the first since the foundation of the China-Pacific Island Countries Poverty Alleviation and Cooperative Development Center. Academic research platforms will be further utilized and international poverty reduction platforms will be built to boost the poverty reduction work in Pacific Island countries in the future.
