Vice President of Federated States of Micronesia (FSM) T.H. Aren B. Palik Visits FAFU

 

On the afternoon of March 28th, a high-level national delegation led by T.H. Aren B. Palik, Vice President of Federated States of Micronesia (FSM), visited FAFU. The delegation included T.H. Tulensa W. Palik, Governor of Kosrae State, T.H. Semeon J. Phillip, Speaker of the Kosrae State Legislature, and 11 other officials. Qian Bo, Special Envoy for Pacific Island Countries Affairs of the Chinese Government, and Chen Guoquan, Deputy Director-General of Foreign Affairs Office of the People’s Government of Fujian Province accompanied the delegation during the visit. Lai Hairong, Chair of the University Council and Zheng Baodong, Vice President of FAFU, met with the delegation and held discussions at Wuyi Hall in Mingde Building.

Mr. Lai Hairong Delivers a Speech 

Professor Lai Hairong welcomed the delegation and highlighted FAFU’s longstanding ties with Pacific Island Countries (PICs), emphasizing its commitment to deepening cooperation with FSM. Over the years, with the guidance and support of both governments, FAFU has been dedicated to its key role in facilitating educational cooperation and people-to people exchanges. By leveraging the China-Pacific Island Countries Poverty Alleviation and Cooperative Development Center and China-Pacific Island Countries Juncao Technology Demonstration Center, the University has adopted a dual approach of “going global” and “bringing in” to develop cooperation with FSM in technical assistance, training, scientific research, and international student programs across the fields of agricultural technology, food processing and social governance. All these efforts contribute to a new chapter of China-FSM partnership.

T.H. Aren B. Palik thanked FAFU for its warm reception and expressed high appreciation for the university’s successful application of Juncao technology to support the economic and social progress of PICs. He believed that the University’s experience in collaboration with these countries will inject new impetus into FSM’s efforts to improve people’s livelihoods, including food security and poverty alleviation. Furthermore, taking this visit as an opportunity, he expressed his hope to accelerate the promotion and development of Juncao technology in Kosrae State, and to explore new avenues for cooperation in education, agricultural technology and other fields.

 

MOU Signing Ceremony 

During the discussion session, both sides witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between China National Engineering Research Center of Juncao Technology at FAFU, China-Pacific Island Countries Juncao Technology Demonstration Center, and Kosrae State of FSM.

Before the meeting, the delegation toured China National Engineering Research Center of Juncao Technology, where T.H. Aren B. Palik was invited to inscribe a dedication for the Center. The delegation also planted the “Grass of Happiness” with FAFU leaders, harboring the wish for a lasting China-FSM friendship.
