On the evening of January 30th, representatives of FAFU Confucius Institute (CI) at Durban University of Technology (DUT) were invited to attend the annual Open Day of Durban High School. The event was aimed at offering plentiful opportunities for exchanges, so that students and their parents could gain a better understanding of the diversified curriculum. With introductions to eight featured electives such as Chinese, Italian, German, Digital Media, Pilot Training and First-aid Training, it attracted nearly 300 participants including students, their parents and teachers.
Participants in Open Day Activities
At the outset, Bryan Adam, Dean of Durban High School, made a brief introduction to all featured electives, stimulating students and their parents to know more about these courses. As one of most distinctive electives at the school, the CI Exhibition Stand attracted many students and their parents to inquire about the class type, class hours and curriculum. Meanwhile, they developed keen interests in projects introduced by volunteer teachers of CI including the Chinese Proficiency Test (HSK), Winter and Summer Camps in China, Chinese Bridge Competition for International Secondary School Students, Study in China and South Africa National Senior Certificate: Mandarin Second Additional Language. They also expressed desire to enroll in the Chinese course of the new semester.
Introducing Class Hours and Schedule
The Chinese course provided since 2018 was greeted with general welcome and affection of students and their parents. It has helped more young South African students know China, injecting vitality into the enduring friendship between the two countries.
