On September 6th, the China-Africa-UNESCO High Level Dialogue on Cooperation in Education and Cultural Heritage Protection was held at the National Communication Center for Science and Technology (CAST) in Beijing.
Among its achievements, during the unveiling ceremony, the Center for Language Exchange and Cooperation (CLEC) under the Ministry of Education, Fujian Agriculture and Forestry University (FAFU), and Durban University of Technology (DUT) in South Africa announced the establishment of the China-Africa Regional Development Center for “Chinese + TVET (Technical and Vocational Education and Training)”. Yu Yunfeng, Director of the CLEC, Lan Siren, President of FAFU, and Dr. Nkosinathi Sishi, Director-General of the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET), jointly unveiled the plaque on behalf of the cooperating parties, respectively.
The Regional Development Center aims to serve Africa by empowering international Chinese language education. It seeks to establish an innovative platform for “Chinese + TVET”, conduct research in this field, and create opportunities for employment and entrepreneurship for more Chinese language learners. It also strives to cultivate a group of interdisciplinary talents who are proficient both in Chinese and vocational skills, and facilitate in-depth exchanges and cooperation between China and countries in Southern Africa in vocational education and skills training.
The establishment of the Regional Development Center represents a new achievement and a new mechanism in China-Africa cultural exchanges, building upon the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation. It brings Chinese and African youth together closely, injects vitality into their pursuit of modernization and common development, which makes new contributions to jointly building a high-level and high-quality China-Africa community with a shared future.
