Introduction of the Library

        The Library of Fujian Agriculture and Forestry University originated from (was part of) the library of Fukien Christian University, which was founded in 1936 and the library of Fujian Provincial College of Agriculture, which was founded in 1940. For about 80 years of its establishment now,, the library has become the only library in Fujian Province which operates as an undergraduate Agriculture and Forestry University and equippedwith advanced technology, state of the art facilities, digital document resources, diverse service platforms and integrations of collection, borrowing, reading and consultation.  

The library is made up of 5 sub-libraries, which are; Run Run Shaw Library and Li Changsheng Library at Jinshan Campus, Qishan Campus library, Nanping Campus library, Anxi College of Tea Science library. The overall floorage is 74927.19 square meters, consisting of 24 reading rooms (areas),2 information retrieval practice rooms, and more than 5000 seats for reading. the main functions of Run Run Shaw Library and Li Changsheng Library are for circulation and collection, while the libraries at Qishan Campus, Nanping Campus, and Anxi College are functionally positioned as turnover. Run Run Shaw Library is equipped with ‘Exhibition Hall of Fujian Provincial College of Agriculture’, and Li Changsheng Library is equipped with a Taiwan literature library and a university history museum.

Form Characteristics through Resource Allocations

With mutual supplement of traditional and digital resource, the library has shaped a diverse literature information guarantee system, in which multidisciplinary literatures develop in a harmonious way. Featuring with agriculture, biological science and Taiwan literature, the library establishes a collection system that supports the coexistence of engineering, science, management,economics, liberal arts, law, and many other disciplines. Some of the library’s literatures are of high academic value. The library have in its collects Taiwan Forestry, Architecture Journal, Ecological Taiwan, Monthly Journal of Taiwan Economics and Finance, Magazine of Taiwan Laws and Design. In total, there are 123 different kinds of collects, 1188 copies of Taiwan periodicals, plus more than 12,000 kinds and more than 18,000 of copies Taiwan books.  

As at December 31, 2016, the total number of books in our library (including bound periodicals) was 2765.9 thousands. Among them,are 2448.5 thousands of Chinese books, 186.6 thousands of Chinese newspapers and periodicals (bound copies), 85.9 thousands of foreign books, 44.9 thousands of foreign newspaper and periodicals (bound copies). In 2016, the library incorporated8 new database resources and application software platforms (including 2 foreign databases), including ESI,InCites,“Sixiangjie” Open Access Resource Platform. Those databases also set up Wechat platform for the convenience to serve readers. The library now has 84 Chinese and foreign language databases (34 foreign language databases), and 1329 thousands of e-books.  


Improve Quality by Team Building

The Library comprises of five departments and one office; they are: The Office, Interview and Edition Department, Circulation Department, Digital Technology Department, Information Consultation Department (including Novelty Retrieval Station) and Culture Extension Department. Currently, there are 62 permanent staffs. Among them, 20 staffs have master or higher degrees, which makes up 32.26 %; 17 staffs have senior professional titles, which makes up 27.42 %; 22 staffs have intermediate professional titles, which makes up 35.48 %. In addition, there are 58 provisional staffs, in which there are 29 personal agency staffs, 15 staffs with master’s degrees, 27 labor dispatching staffs, and 2 part-time staffs. The professional quality of our library’s staffs (both teching and administrative staffs) has increase significantly, and theage, education background, and knowledge structure of all staffs have been optimized, providing reliable and strong literature information guarantee for the research and education of our university.


Expand Resources by Sharing Platforms

Since 2013, the library has been strengthening the construction of mobile library. Successively, the library has launched Huiwen cell phone OPAC, cell phone FULink for new campuses of universities in Fuzhou region, and the self-service e-book download service based on FULink platform. The library has promoted online reading or download of e-books and e-periodicals in shared platforms, academic resource searching, mobile utilization of online video, online open classes and many other diverse resources. A literature information resources guarantee system has been established, which supports the coexistence of paper literature and electronic literature, the integration of physical and virtual library collection, and the integration of single-library guarantee and mutual borrowing and transmitting among libraries has broken the limitations that readers have to borrow or read books by physically visiting libraries. Additionally, the migration works for new servers of united borrowing and reading devices and self-service devices has been accomplished. The Goethe e-books borrowing and reading services has been set up, allowing readers in three campuses and five libraries to self-service download books. Its downloads in 2016 is more than 43 thousands copies. Moreover, our faculty and students have made more than 1.2827 million visits to FULink platform, and more than 43.3 thousands literature acquisition requests have been submitted by Fulink.  


Optimize Service by Management Innovation

The library increasingly innovates management, and upgrades intelligent management level. Currently, the library has built learning areas and audio & visual reading rooms, providing independent spaces for readers to hold small size seminars and lectures. The Library Wechat official account has been established, and it expands external publicity channels. Information management is also achieved by managing books recommended by our Wechat platform to purchase, and the seats in learning halls. Depositary management system has been established for the lockers in Li Changsheng library, which allows readers to reserve and the library to examine and approve online. It regulates the management of lockers, and improves service efficiency. In addition, handling leaving university procedures through graduates leaving management system improves efficiency for graduates too.


Create value through Serving and Educating

Sticking to the mission as “Put Readers First, To Serve and Educate”, the library earnestly carries out educational functions and information service functions, providing readers with comprehensive, multi-channels, and multi-levels literature information services. Since 1990s, the library has started Sci-Tech novelty retrieval service, and got selected into the very first list of Sci-Tech novelty retrieval consultation institutes recognized by Ministry of Agriculture in 1995. In the year 1998, the library became one of the first agricultural novelty retrieval institutes recognized by the Science Committee of Fujian Province, and then became the agricultural Sci-Tech novelty retrieval working station recognized by Ministry of Education. The library has conducted a large amount of novelty retrieval service for research projects, achievement assessments, applications for bonus, and patent applications. In 2013, the working station added in-university patent novelty retrieval service, and built cooperation relationship on novelty retrieval with Sanming University Library. Expanding origins for novelty retrieval, our library keeps strengthening the novelty retrieval team.

The library fosters faculties’ and students’ passion in reading, and improves the utilization ratio of library resource through campus-wide readings, reading festivals, books recommendation and purchasing, book exhibitions, database trainings and other activities. It improves readers’ information accomplishment and retrieval capability through setting up information retrieval courses (common foundation courses). Through utilizing discipline-librarian regulations, the library initiatively carries out database resource retrieval and utilization trainings and other services towards discipline construction and the requirements of faculty and students.
