On the 27th World Aids Day on December 1,FAFU hospital launched activities of HIV/AIDS prevention and control on campus. The theme of this year remains “Getting to Zero”, with a focus on joint efforts to break difficulties and contain HIV/AIDS.

It is a reality that the HIV virusis spreading among students.Despite the drop in HIV infections by almost 40 percent globally since 2001 and AIDS-related deaths by 35 percent since their peak in 2005, the number of new AIDS infections and patients this year increase over the same period the previous year. What is particularly worrying is the increase in AIDS infections among students. last year. five provinces reported more than 100 students infected with the virus, even the youngest one is only 14 years old in north China's Hebei province.
It is obvious that awareness about HIV and AIDS is far from enough. On the one hand, there are almost no sex education courses in the majority of Chinese schools and even universities ,the lack of sex education has resulted in a lack of AIDS awareness among them.. A survey in Guangzhou shows that only 40 percent of students on campus have received any knowledge about AIDS.On the other hand, the social media network has greatly increased the opportunities for homosexuals to get in contact with each other and have sex, which has increased the possibility of homosexuals being infected with the HIV virus. So, students should be instructed about the disease and safe sex. We should no longer take it for granted that sex, safe sex in particular, is something that everyone finds out about by themselves.

How does the HIV spread and how to take precautions against the AIDS?After a questionnaire surveyon what the students most concerned about, our school hospital launched a series of related publicity and education activities, including giving thematic lectures, distribution prevention leaflets, photo exhibitions, on-site consultation and micro-blog interaction, promotion on the school radio ect. The activitives aim to let students get more knowledge about the disease and further realize the importance of HIV/AIDS prevention and treatment.

For the goal of“Getting to Zero”,everyone should raise awareness of self-protection and keep away from drugs and bad habits .Meanwhile,It still calls upon all governments, departments, social organizations and volunteers to work together to combat the disease.
