Confucius Institute of Durban University of Technology in South Africa held the First Session of the Second Council Meeting

In the afternoon of March 6th (local time in South Africa), Prof. Bawa, the President of Durban University of Technology (DUT) hosted the 2014 First Session of the Second Council Meeting of Confucius Institute of DUT in VC Board Room of Milena Court of Steve Biko Campus. All the council members of Confucius Institute of DUT and the council member from China Fu Chaobo (totallyfive persons) attended the conference.

On the meeting, the council heard reports on The 8th Global Confucius Institute Conference and the First Session of First Council Meeting at FAFU, as well as the report of the Chinese Director Fu Chaobo on the recent progress of Confucius Institute, examined and approved the budget performance of the start-up capital of $150000 of Confucius Institute, discussed and made decision about many important issues concerning the future development of Durban Confucius Institute. These issues included the responsibilities and division of labor of council and leadership team of Confucius Institute of DUT for 2014, the development plan, the financial budget, the personnel recruitment, the exchange visitor program between two universities, the design of Logo and the construction of website of Confucius Institute, and so on. The meeting also appointed Mr. Devanathan Govindasamy, the project coordinator of International Cooperation and Exchange Office, as a special assistant of the Director of the Confucius Institute.

 

On the council meeting, Fu Chaobo, the Chinese Director of Confucius Institute sent by FAFU, presented in detail the 2014 annual development plan of Confucius Institute. Fu Chaobo also presented the characteristic disciplines of FAFU and the types of scholarships available at FAFU for recruiting international students, and encouraged more students from DUT and South Africa to come to FAFU for pursuing advanced studies or completing their degree.

 

It is known that the council of Confucius Institute of DUT is composed of nine councillors, the Director is President of DUT Prof. Bawa, and the Deputy Director is President of FAFU Prof. Lan Siren, the members include both Vice Presidents in charge of the Institute of two universities, the Director of International Cooperation and Exchange Office, and the Chinese and Foreign Directors of Confucius institute etc.. The First Session of the First Council Meeting was successfully held in December last year at FAFU.
