President Lan Siren led a delegation to visit the universities in the USA and Canada

From May 7th to 14th, President Lan Siren led a delegation to visit UIUC in the USA, and MSVU and Dalhousie University in Canada.

During the visit in the USA, President Lan Siren and his entourage, companied with the Minjiang Scholar Distinguished Professor of FAFU Ming Ruiguang ,held cordial discussions with Ms. Mabokela,the Associate Provost in charge of international affairs and global strategy and Mr. Barnes, the Deputy Director of Office of Strategic International Partnership of UIUC, who appreciated the progress made by FAFU in education internationalization in recent years, and hoped to further strengthen the substantive cooperation between the two universities on the existing basis; both sides thought that there existed great potential and broad prospects for carrying out the cooperation in the field of bee science.
President Lan and his entourage also met with Mr. Feng Shenghu,the Dean of College of Liberal Arts and Law of UIUC and Ms. Palaski-Nicholson, the Deputy Director of Department of International Project of College of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences. The two sides agreed to extend their cooperation from the College of Comprehensive Biology to the College of Liberal Arts and Law and also promote the summer program of College of Agriculture, Consumer and Environmental Sciences of UIUC.

After that, President Lan Siren met with the students of FAFU studying abroad in UIUC and the Chinese doctoral students studying and working in UIUC, during which he presented the talent policy of FAFU.

During their visit in Canada, President Lan Siren and his entourage firstly visited the MSVU and met with President Ms. Lumpkins and Vice President Ms. Church, as well as other faculty of the MSVU. During the meeting, Lan Siren introduced the status quo of running-school of Qishan campus of FAFU, and expressed his satisfaction about the progress of jointly running in school in the major of Tourism and Hotel Management major between MSVU and Jinshan College of FAFU. He hoped to further promote the existing cooperation and extend the cooperation to other relevant majors or disciplines; the President of MSVU expressed that they would send their teachers to FAFU since this summer for teaching, in order to improve the English level of FAFU students.The delegation also visited the young teachers of Jinshan College of FAFU taking short-term learning in MSVU.

President Lan Siren and his entourage also visited Dalhousie University and met with Mr. Florizone, President of Dalhousie University, Mr. Grey, Dean of College of Agriculture, Ms. Macy, Dean of College of Architecture and Planning, and members of the research team of Landscape Architecture etc., the two sides agreed to explore the possibility of a“3+1+2” mode of cooperation to jointly cultivate graduate students on the basis of the existing Bachelor’s Degree Program in Landscape Architecture; meanwhile, the two sides would carry out cooperation in aquaculture and precision agriculture and accelerated the joint training of doctoral students. Lan Siren also held a seminar titled “The charm of Oriental Garden” to nearly 200 teachers and students of the Dalhousie University, and received a warm welcome.  

It is known that, as an affirmation of his academic achievements, the Dalhousie University also employed President Lan Siren as a visiting professor and awarded him the degree of Honorary Doctor of Laws.
