Confucius Institute of FAFU at DUT Participated in the 2018 Guangdong 21st Centurey Maritime Silk Road International Expo Theme Forum

Recently, the 2018 Guangdong 21st Century Maritime Silk Road International Expo Theme Forum was held in Guangzhou Baiyun International Convention Center. The Forum was hosted by Guangzhou municipal government, and co-organized by China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (Guangzhou committee), Guangzhou Multiple commission of Commerce, Guangzhou Multiple development and Reform Commission, Guangzhou 5 Idea Education Technology Co., Ltd., and Guangdong University of Foreign Studies.

Poppet Pillay, director of the Center for Social Entrepreneurship at DUT, delivered a speech on the sub-forum 

The delegation of Durban University of Technology (DUT) and the Confucius Institute of FAFU at DUT participated in one of the forums —Forum on International Vocational Chinese Language Training Program and Business Incubation for the Countries of the Belt and Road Initiative. Dr. Poppet Pillay, director of the Center for Social Entrepreneurship at DUT, delivered a speech as special guest. She said that “With the deepening bilateral cooperation between China and South Africa, Chinese language has become a useful tool for North African students in job hunting, employment and even entrepreneurship. The Confucius Institute at DUT emerged in this situation provides South African students a platform for knowing, acquiring and using Chinese. It also works as a bridge for the South African students to study abroad. In addition, it paves the way for South Africans to learn Chinese culture and interpret Chinese market information”.

In the forum, Wu Lin,Chinese Director of Confucius Institute at DUT, signed the Letter of Intent for International Vocational Chinese Language Training Program and Business Incubation with Wu Yuzhao, Chairman of the Guangzhou 5 Idea Education Technology Co., Ltd. The two sides anticipated to cooperate in the fields of vocational Chinese language and special skills training, and establish an international center for this purpose. This cooperation aimed to add value to the South African Chineses learners, bring new energy to their entrepreneurship, help Chinese Enterprises dealing with the shortage of Chinese–speaking foreign personnel, spread Chinese language, and improve China’s cultural soft power.
