A Delegation of Department of Education and Skills of Ireland Visited FAFU

In the afternoon of October 23th, a delegation of 13 people led by Mr. John Halligan, Deputy Minister of Department of Education and Skills of Republic of Ireland, visited FAFU. The visit was accompanied by Irish ambassador to China. President Lan Siren received the delegation in Wuyi Hall of Mingde Building. Vice President Zheng Baodong, distinguished Minjiang Scholar Professor Miao Song, and relevant persons in charge of Office of International Cooperation and Exchange, Office of Educational Administration, Office of Development and Planning, Graduate School, College of Food Science, College of Forestry, College of Animal Sciences, Jinshan College and Overseas Education College attended the meeting.

At first, President Lan briefly introduced the basic situation of FAFU and its achievements in educationinternationalization . He expressed that FAFU has a strong desire for further cooperation with Ireland and there was a promising prospect for future cooperation between the two sides. President Lan hoped that, with the support and assistance of Deputy Minister Halligan, the two sides would have a upgraded cooperation partnership in scientific research, and promote jointly the concretization of the proposal to co-establish an international institution between FAFU and University College Cork. Deputy Minister Halligan welcomed President Lan to visit Ireland in the near future, and discussed the issues of co-establishing the international institute and strengthening the cooperation between the research institutes of two sides.

After the meeting, the Irish delegation visited the Sino-Irish Research Center on Food Material Science and Structure Design, and listened to the presentation given by the director of the center. Deputy Minister Halligan expressed that he would continue to support the development of the center.

It is known that FAFU has a good partnership with both Food Research Center of Department of Agriculture and University College Cork of Republic of Ireland.
