The Conficius Institute of FAFU at DUT Co-organized the 2018 Chinese Moon Festival Concert

In the evening of September 10th, local time in South Africa, the 2018 Chinese Moon Festival Concert, also as a part of “2018 Guangzhou Cultural Week?Guangdong Music Africa Trip”, was held at Sibaya iZulu Theatre in Durban. The concert was jointly hosted by the Consulate General of the P.R. China in Durban, China Federation of Literary and Art Circles, Chinese Musicians Association and the Publicity Department of Guangzhou Municipal Party Committee, and co-organized by the Confucius Institute of FAFU at DUT, Guangzhou Municipal Bureau of Culture Radio, Television, Press and Publication, KwaZulu-Natal Chinese Language and Culture Promotion Foundation, Durban-Guangzhou Sister Cities Association, and Chinese Industrial and Commercial Federation of KwaZulu-Natal. The concert was performed by Guangdong Music and Folk Art Troupe.

Ding Qiao,Consul General of Consulate General of the P.R. China in Durban, Sihle Zikalala, Chairman of KwaZulu-Natal, Sherry Zalika Sykes, Consul General of the U.S. Consulate General in Durban, Eric Apelgren, Director of Department of International and Governmental Relation of Durban, Sibusiso Moyo, Vice President of DUT, Zhu Hongbing, official of Guangzhou Municipal Bureau of Culture Radio, Television, Press and Publication, along with local senior officials, representatives of local businessmen, Chinese immigrants in South Africa and journalists from news media, about 700 hundred people attended the concert. Ding Qiao firstly extended a welcome speech and expressed that this performance by a Chinese cultural troupe aimed to inherit and carry forward the spirit of Silk Road, and promote the mutual communication.
Eric Apelgren, Director of Department of International and Governmental Relation, also delivered a speech, and Wu Lin, Dean of Confucius Institution of FAFU at DUT, acknowledged the attendees.

  Guangdong Hakka Han Music “The Lotus Blossoms”

Guangdong Music and Folk Art Troupe performed a series of Chinese classic ensembles and songs. These performances showed the beauty of music played with Chinese traditional instruments and the unique culture of Lingnan area (including Guangdong, Guangxi and Hainan Province). In “Beautiful Africa”, Yangqin, a traditional Chinese plucked string instrument, and Djembe, a traditional African percussion instrument, complemented each other perfectly and gave the audience a refreshing visual and aesthetic enjoyment.

The concert has stired up a heated repercussion. The audience expressed that it was the first time that they were exposed to the music played with traditional Chinese instruments. They were all impressed by the broadness and profoundness of Chinese culture and art, and the joyous atmosphere of Mid-autumn Festival.
