FAFU Confucius Institute at Durban University of Technology Held “Hello, Confucius Institute” Orientation Activity

From May 18th to 21st, local time of South Africa, Durban University of Technology welcomed the annual DUT Open Week. This “Week” invited over 12000 students of Grade 11 and Grade 12 from 140 middle schools as well as their teachers and parents from South Africa's Kwazulu Natal province to participatin the activity. As the youngest institute in Durban University of Technology, FAFU Confucius Institute at DUT partparticipated, by invitation, actively in the activity. Confucius Institute offered various cultural performances to introduce Chinese culture,and a young but energetic Confucius Institute to the audience. This activity included three sections: exhibition introduction, cultural performances and tea ceremony performance.

It is known that DUT Open Week usually  attracted thousands of secondary school students,  as well as their teachers and parents every year. This “Week”aimed to introduce Durban University of Technology to the attendees, including its teaching facilities, and characteristics, advantageous disciplines and research directions, which could be served as references for students to apply for universities in the future. The activity,improved the relationship between Confucius Institute and other teaching departments of DUT increased the visibility of Confucius Institute among the numerous middle schools in Kwazulu Natal province,and effectively expanded the influence of Chinese language and culture in the region.
