Consulate General of New Zealand in Guangzhou visited FAFU

In the morning of April 27th, the New Zealand Consul General Ms. Rachel Maidment led a delegation to visit FAFU. The delegation was companied by three people from the Cultural Section of the Foreign Affairs Office of the Fujian Provincial People’s Government. Vice President Zheng Baodong met with the delegation on the 13th floor of Mingde Building. Representatives from FAFU’s Office of International Cooperation and Exchanges, College of Horticulture, College of Bee Science and College of Economics attended the meeting.

During the meeting, Vice President Zheng Baodong, on behalf of FAFU, welcomed the delegation. He reviewed the historical origin and current development status of the cooperation between FAFU and New Zealand’s universities and research institutions. Vice President Zheng Baodong hoped to establish links with more New Zealand’s universities and scientific institutions, to expand the cooperation in running schools at graduate level and scientific research cooperation in apiology and marine research with the help of General Consul Ms. Rachel Maidment. Consul General Ms. Rachel thanked FAFU for its warm hospitality and stated that New Zealand was a country founded on agriculture and hoped to strengthen cooperation with China in agriculture, forestry, animal husbandry, marine environment, tourism and other industries. She said that FAFU and New Zealand universities and scientific research institutions had good basis and broad space for cooperation. Li Lairong, the former president of FAFU, had made great contributions to the development of New Zealand’s kiwifruit industry in China. New Zealand was willing to provide platforms of cooperation in running schools, agricultural science and technology, tourism industry and other aspects and strengthen the cooperation with FAFU. Afterwards, the two sides also exchanged in-depth views on scientific research cooperation and personnel exchanges in apology, tea science, fruit fly control, and marine research etc.
