On March 23th, local time of South Africa, Confucius Institute (CI) of FAFU at DUT held a Chinese language and cultural training for the bank clerks of Bank of China Durban Branch. All staff of the Bank participated in the training. It was the first time that the CI of FAFU at DUT held such a type of training aiming at  the staff of Chinese-funded enterprise.

During the training, Huang Qiaoliang, a government-sponsored teacher of Confucius Institute, introduced the basic knowledge of Chinese linguistic system and structure, and taught the clerks some simple Chinese characters and Pinyin. Huang explained the fundamental elements of Pinyin, the four tones of Mandarin, and the meaning of Chinese radicals in an easy and understandable way. Meanwhile, he made a comparison between the people of South Africa and China about their character and temperament, analyzed the cultural differences between two countries, and introduced the restrained and contained feature of Chinese culture. During the training lecture, people interacted warmly.

Local staff who took part in the training said that they learned a lot from the training lecture. They had a deeper understanding of China and interpersonal communication culture of Chinese society.
Along with the “Mandarin Fever”, more and more enterprises’ employees, especially those who work for Chinese-funded companies want to learn Mandarin. To meet locals’ needs of learning Mandarin and Chinese culture and serves more local people, the CI of FAFU at DUT combines practical Mandarin teaching with national situations, enterprise culture and cross-cultural communication. It contributes to increase the effectiveness of the spread of Mandarin and Chinese culture.
