Confucius Institute of FAFU at DUT held a series of events to celebrate the Chinese Spring Festival

In the evening of February 9th, 2018, local time in South Africa, the first “Global Tower Lights up” in Africa, launched by Guangzhou government, jointly organized by the CI of FAFU at DUT and Durban-Guangzhou Sister City Association, was held in the city hall of Durban. Wang Jianzhou, Chinese Consul-general in Durban, Dingqiao, Deputy Consul-General, Fawzia Peer, Deputy Mayor of Durban, Wulin, Chinese Director of CI of FAFU at DUT, Li Jingmin, Chairman of the Durban-Guangzhou Sister City Association, and journalists from all circles attended the ceremony. Cities participating in this event include Guangzhou (Canton Tower),  Macao (Macau Tower),Shanghai (The Oriental Pearl Radio & TV Tower), New York(Empire State Building), Sydney (Sydney Tower), Tokyo (Tokyo Tower), Berlin (Berlin TV Tower) and Moscow(Ostankino Tower). As the first city that participated in this activity in Africa, Durban also lighted up the tower of friendship between South Africa and China and offered their best wishes for Chinese New Year.

In the evening of February 13th, 2018, local time in South Africa, Celebration of Chinese New Year and The 20th Anniversary of China-South Africa Diplomatic Relations, hosted by Consulate General of China in Durban, and jointly by Overseas Chinese and Chinese Industrial and Commercial Federation of KwaZulu-Natal Province, Confucius Institute of FAFU at DUT and Durban-Guangzhou Sister City Association, was held in SibayaiZulu Theatre. Wang Jianzhou, Chinese Consul-general in Durban,Dingqiao, Deputy Consul-General, Fawzia Peer, Deputy Mayor of Durban, Sherry Zalika Sykes, the American Consul-General in Durban, Eric Apelgren, Director of Department of International and Governmental relations in Durban, Andrew Davis, Chief of the tribe of Khoisan and Sibusiso Moyo, Deputy Vice-Chancellor of DUT attended the celebration. Local senior officials, representatives of local businessmen and overseas Chinese in South Africa, and journalists of about 700 people from all circles were also invited toparticipate in this activity to celebrate both the Chinese New Year and the 20th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and South Africa.

In the evening of February 27th, local time of South Africa, the Confucius Institute of FAFU at DUT was invited to participate in the Open Day events of its subordinate teaching station, the Crawford College in North Coast. On the occasion of the Chinese traditional Lantern Festival, the Confucius Institute specially designed an Open Day activity with the theme of “Experiencing Lantern Festival, Experiencing Chinese cultures” to stimulate students’ interests in participating in Chinese language courses, and make students as well as their parents know more about Chinese traditional cultures, festival customs and Chinese teaching programs of the Confucius Institute in a happy and peaceful atmosphere. In the evening,  a few hundreds of students and their parents visited the campus and participated in the activities organized by the Confucius Institute.
